As I was walking into work this morning I experienced what we all do, I walked in with people that I have never seen before and probably will not again. Several thoughts crossed my mind. The one that jumped out to me was ‘In our lives how many times do we make contact with people for only one time?’ That number is one that none of us can count (and if you can then you have issues). One of the other thoughts that occurred to me was that in these moments we really only have two options. You can choose to be an asset, or you can choose to be an asshole. And that choice is entirely up to you. How that choice lives in the real world depends on a lot of circumstances, however, your approach to any of these circumstances in the real world has a significant influence on how they play out.
I absolutely love what I do at work. I love going to work. I have been in the healthcare industry for over 20 years. I have seen about everything you can see. I spent ten plus years working in the ER, and most of that was in the only trauma center in the region. The stories I could tell are the stuff that would not sell on TV.
For the last four plus years I have been working in the radiology scheduling department at Legacy Health. A year ago I moved Legacy Salmon Creek after our department decentralized. Best move ever…the team that I work with is absolutely amazing. As I walked into work this morning on a full moon (yes it is real, and yes it was nuts today), it was a nice reminder that we can be one of two people in any situation. Be an asset. Or be an asshole. I dealt with both today. So did you. Don’t be an asshole!
